Former Deliverr and Shopify employees told Insider last week's layoffs at Flexport capped the end of a multiyear rollercoaster marked by multiple complicated acquisitions and integrations, compensation issues, and culture clashes. The integration of the Shopify Logistics team into Flexport had been rocky, five employees said. When Shopify completed its acquisition of Deliverr in July 2022, employees' equity converted to Shopify stock on a one-to-one basis. This person added that the conversion from public stock to RSUs meant that the value of their Flexport equity was less than they expected. The structure allows Shopify employees to decide the percentage of their compensation they want to be made up of cash and how much of stock.

Flexport CEO Dave Clark is resigning from the supply chain software startup and handing the reins over to founder and executive chair Ryan Petersen after one year in the role — and after just six months of helming the company solo. As such, I will be resigning from my position at Flexport." Clark and Petersen had been co-CEOs of Flexport beginning last September, and Clark took over as the company's sole CEO in March. Flexport announced last June that Petersen would step down in March 2023 as CEO and turn the position over to Clark, while transitioning into the role of executive chair. The VP in charge of Amazon's ecommerce technology services has taken a sudden leave of absence. Sukumar Rathnam, an Amazon VP who was formerly Uber's chief technology officer, is taking a sudden leave of absence, Insider has learned. Rathnam was most recently VP of eCommerce services at Amazon, overseeing the retail giant's backend technology. It was his second stint at Amazon, after having spent almost 10 years in a retail VP role previously. Many Amazon employees voiced their opposition to RTO over the past 6 months, both publicly and privately, sparking an internal petition and a public walkout.
